Welcome to the homepage of the artist Georg Mayer-Marton!
Georg Mayer-Marton was an important Austrian artist from the interwar period, who had early successes in the 1920s and 1930s in Vienna.
Because of his jewish-hungarian origin he emigrated to London in 1938, where it was not easy for him to live on his art. His preferred subjects were landscapes, park scenes and scene from his surrounding world. Many of his works are in dark coloured tones, the issues - seeming to be very simple - often have a metaphorical impact. Mayer-Marton used expressionist as well as cubistic and futuristic elements in his paintings and drawings. He did also some murals and mosaics for churches and public buildings.
